Sertão baiano inicia criação de peixes de água salgada

Nova técnica permite que 100% das águas dos poços artesianos sejam aproveitadas. Metade da água se torna potável pelo processo de dessalinização, enquanto que a outra metade (com o dobro de sal e que, anteriormente, era descartada) torna-se viveiro de peixes.

Pescadores do sertão baiano estão produzindo peixes de água salgada, em meio ao solo seco e árido da região. O que parece um contrasenso – ou um milagre – trata-se, na realidade, da utilização de novas tecnologias para o aproveitamento da água salinizada de poços artesianos, que seria descartada. A pesquisa para a viabilização da técnica, feita pela Bahia Pesca (empresa vinculada à Secretaria de Agricultura, Irrigação e Reforma Agrária do Estado da Bahia – Seagri) em parceria com a Companhia de Engenharia Rural da Bahia e a prefeitura municipal de Ipirá, terá seus primeiros resultados apresentados nesta quarta-feira (9), em Ipirá, quando ocorrerá a despesca de 1,5 tonelada de peixes.

“A tecnologia de dessalinização era utilizada para a obtenção de água doce dos poços artesianos. O problema é que, ao realizar o processo, metade da água se tornava potável, mas a outra metade tinha o dobro de concentração de sal. Agora os pescadores do sertão baiano podem ter, com o material de um único poço, água doce e um criadouro de peixes de água salgada”, explica o diretor-presidente da Bahia Pesca, Isaac Albagli.

A técnica envolve a aclimatação gradativa dos alevinos à água salgada. “A parte salinizada do poço possui cerca de 16mg de sal por litro, imprópria para o consumo humano. Então esta água, tão escassa e essencial para o sertanejo, era despejada no meio ambiente sem qualquer aproveitamento. Com este novo método os poços artesianos passam a fornecer não apenas água, mas também alimentos para a população da região”, comemora Albagli.
