Mercado ‘garimpa’ alternativas à Costa do Marfim e cacau recua

Os conflitos políticos na Costa do Marfim continuam a trazer volatilidade ao mercado de cacau. Até então um fator altista, a turbulência no maior produtor mundial da amêndoa começa a trazer os preços para baixo, na medida em que as grandes companhias processadoras ampliam o volume da matéria-prima obtido de outras fontes, que não a Costa do Marfim.

Ontem, os papéis da commodity com vencimento em maio na bolsa de Nova York fecharam em queda de US$ 106, com a tonelada valendo US$ 3.527. Na terça-feira, o pregão também foi de desvalorização, de US$ 29 por tonelada.

A segunda queda consecutiva ocorreu mesmo com as medidas do governo de Laurent Gbagbo – cuja vitória nas eleições não foi reconhecida internacionalmente – ter tomado o controle das vendas e das exportações de cacau e café.

As multinacionais estão encontrando outras formas de compensar a escassez de oferta vinda da Costa do Marfim por causa dos problemas políticos no país. A Archer Daniels Midland (ADM), por exemplo, informou, em comunicado, que para atender sua demanda por chocolates está usando as plantas de processamento de Gana, Cingapura, Brasil, Estados Unidos e mesmo da Europa.

Ontem, segundo a agência Dow Jones Newswires, cerca de 400 mil toneladas da amêndoa seriam disponibilizadas no mercado a partir de outros fornecedores, que não a Costa do Marfim.

Além disso, a previsão é que a safra de Gana, o segundo maior produtor mundial, suba 42% neste ano e atinja 850 mil toneladas na principal colheita, em outubro.

Thomas Hartmann, da TH Consultoria, de Salvador, ainda não vê nenhum reflexo para a produção brasileira, que se encontra na entressafra. “Mas os preços tendem a cair na medida em que os conflitos na Costa do Marfim forem se resolvendo”, avisa. No mercado interno, o feriado de carnaval reduziu negócios e a arroba fechou estável em R$ 90 na região de Ilhéus e Itabuna, segundo a Central Nacional de Produtores de Cacau.
